How do I create families and relationships and add family members?

Describes how to create families and relationships as well as add family members, such as a wife, husband, son, daughter, etc.

Updated over a week ago

You will need the Limited Write People permission to perform this action.

Creating a family

To add new members to an existing person's family, navigate to the person's profile and click the tab labeled "Relationships" then select the "Edit Household" button.

The Editing Family pop-up will appear. Select inside the box and type the name of another member to add a family member. If they are not in the database already, you can add them at that point.

Indicate the relationship of the new member by choosing from the options:
-Adult
-Child

Also,

  • Click on the profile image to change the family manager.

  • The two family members with Heart icons are married/in a relationship.

Tip: If the person being added is currently part of a family with more than one member, a message will appear informing you that the person will be removed from the existing family and added to this one. You can click on the "info" icon to view the members of that family. The person marked with the star is the family manager.

**If the person being added is the only member on their current family, that family will automatically be deleted before being added to the new one.

New families are automatically created when you add a new person to the system. The person will be the Family Manager of their own family. Their initial position is selected from the "New Person" pop up under the General > Family section.

Creating Relationships

You can add extra relationships between two people in the system (i.e. aunt, uncle, friend, coach, etc.). This can be done within the "Relationships" tab of a person's profile. This tab was formerly named Family.

This allows you to create social connections between two people, and also label them and notate the relationship. You can specify each side of the relationship and the connected profiles will be accessible on both profiles with the appropriate label (i.e. profile will show sister on one end and brother on the other). A set of common relationship labels has been added to the system, but you can create new ones using the cog menu next to the dropdown as needed.

Connections between two families can be done via relationships that allow you to explicitly indicate the nature of that relationship. People can only be part of a primary household with any external relationships being set separately.

Creating a family tag

A family tag helps you qualify further the family position. It corresponds to this field in the user interface:

For example, the position could be "Child" and the tag could be "Granddaughter"

It's an optional field.
