How do I request a child safety training course for a volunteer or ministry employee?

Describes how to request child safety training and track progress.

You will need the Write Background Checks permission to perform this action. The Protect My Ministry integration will also need to be enabled and include the Child Safety Training module. See How do I enable child safety training? for more details on enabling this integration.

A training can be requested as part of a background check or on its own.

Adding child safety training to a background check order

When adding a background check, you can also have the applicant complete a child safety training course by choosing the course from the Child Safety Training dropdown.

The applicant is emailed a link to complete the training course once the background check has been ordered. If you send an invite for the applicant to submit their own background check, the child safety training email is not sent until they have submitted the background check itself.

Requesting child safety training on its own

You can request child safety training without submitting a background check. Go to Contacts > Screenings > Child Safety Trainings in the left-hand menu, then click Request Training.

You can also request it from a person's profile: open the Safeguards > Child Safety Trainings tab and click Request Training.

The Request Child Safety Training pop up opens with these fields:

  • Person - Required. Begin typing to search for the person who should take the training.

  • Training type - Required. Choose Volunteer, Employee (English), or Employee (Spanish).

  • Course Description panel updates to show the length and lessons covered by the selected course.

If the chosen person doesn't have an email or birthday on their profile, those fields appear so you can enter them here. Both are required to request a training, and what you enter is saved to the person's profile automatically.

Important: The person will have 14 days to complete the training before it expires.

Click Save. The person receives an email containing a link to complete the course.

Once they complete the training, their score is automatically imported into the system along with whether they passed, and the requester is emailed. You can view and print the completion certificate by viewing the results under Contacts > Screenings > Child Safety Trainings or from the person's profile under the Safeguards > Safety Trainings tab.
