What are service plan templates?

Explains what plan templates are and how they can be used to save time setting up service plans.

You will need the Full Write Service Plans permission to perform these actions.

Templates are saved order of service, team volunteer configurations, and serving notification settings which can be loaded into new or existing service plans. This helps save you time by having common setups quick to create.

When creating service plans, you can indicate a template to use. The chosen template is then used to automatically fill and add the order of service and needed volunteer positions as defined on the template. You can even schedule actual volunteers on the template and those will also be added as well.

Templates are associated with a specific service type. To add or edit templates, go to Service Planning > Settings from the left-hand menu and click on the service type you want to add/edit a template for.

In the pop up, go to the Templates tab. From here, you can create a new template by clicking on the "Add Template" button or edit an existing template by either clicking on the name or the Edit button at the end of the row.

After creating the template (or choosing one to edit), you'll be taken to the template itself where you can define the order of service, volunteer teams, and notifications settings for plans that use this type.

Creating the order of service and setting up the needed volunteer teams are done in the same way as on a service plan. Essentially, a service plan template is a service plan but without a date and time. The setup is copied to new plans when created (though they can also be imported into existing plans as well).

The example below shows two serving teams along with the positions and quantity needed for each. If this template is used when creating a new plan, those same teams, positions, and quantities will be automatically set on the plan.
