How does Text-to-Give work?

How does a donor set up Text-to-Give

Updated over a week ago

For churches who have enrolled in One Church Giving and who have enabled text messaging.

Donors can give by text when someone sends a text message to the

number assigned in One Church with the phrase “GIVE” and a dollar amount.

Example: GIVE 25

The text message must be sent to the number that was provided to the church by One Church Software when text messaging was enabled.

If a donor has already set up text giving, then they will receive a thank-you message.

The donation will be submitted for payment processing and, the transaction will automatically be recorded in One Church Software in Contributions and linked to the donor.

If the donor hasn't yet set up text giving, then they will receive a prompt on their mobile device linking them to a donation form.

This allows the donor to connect their phone number with their profile and a form of payment. Once that's completed, the text donation will be processed

and any text donations made in the future will be automatically processed.

Other Text-to-Give keywords

Donors can text the keyword: EDIT to the One Church number to modify and update the billing information.

They can text the keyword: REFUND to request a refund for the last amount given.

Note that text donations can be refunded via text message; debit/credit card and ACH donations given via a giving portal require someone with elevated permissions to refund on the donor's behalf.

Create a QR code for Text-to-Give

To create a QR code that directs users to send a text message for giving, begin by clicking on the "gear" icon located in the top right-hand corner of One Church Software. From the dropdown menu, select "QR Code Generator."

In the QR code generator tool, look for the Destination field. Here, input a special SMS command in the following format:
sms:[church phone number]?body=GIVE

Replace [church phone number] with the church’s dedicated text-to-give number. The word "GIVE" should be in all capital letters. The QR code's color can be changed to match the church's branding.

Once satisfied with the settings, download the QR code. When someone scans the code with their phone, it will open their default text messaging app with a new message addressed to the church's number and the word "GIVE" already entered—making the giving process simple and seamless.
