This article assumes you have already gone through the steps to install the Dymo software and browser plugin on the check-in station as well as validated the web service is running. Please see this article for more details on these steps.

If the printer isn't working properly, try the following steps. If all else fails, go through a clean install. If you are still having issues, please reach out to support.

Run Test Tool

First, run the test tool to make sure everything is green. If there are any issues detecting the printer, the troubleshooting tips below should help.

Set as Default Printer

Dymo will create a new instance whenever you change the USB port you use when connecting the printer. This may cause issues with printing as the new instance would not use the correct drivers. We recommend to ALWAYS use the same USB port when connecting the printer to the check-in station to avoid this issue.

To check if you have multiple Dymo instances, go to Devices and Printers in the Control Panel (Windows) or System Preferences (Mac). Make sure there is only one instance of the Dymo printer installed, and that it is your default printer.

If you have multiple Dymo printers installed, you will need to remove the inactive one.

Reset Printer

To refresh the printer, unplug the power cord from the printer for a full 30 seconds, and then plug it back in. When you plug it back in, make sure the connection is secure. If it feels loose, that could cause connection problems and you might need a new printer/cable.

Update Drivers

You should be using Dymo version 8.5.3 or higher. To find out what version you have, please follow these steps.

  • Open the Dymo Software. On Windows: Select Help in your toolbar, then select About Dymo. On Mac: Select DYMO Label in your toolbar and then About Dymo 

If your Dymo version is older, follow these steps to update.

  • Completely uninstall the version you currently have installed. 
  • Restart your computer. 
  • Download and Install the latest version. 
  • Restart your computer. 

Important: Restarting the computer both times is important. Please do not skip those steps.

Clean Install

If you continue to experience issues, do a clean install of the Dymo software by following these steps.

  • Unplug the printer from the computer.
  • Uninstall the current version of the Dymo software as an Administrator on the computer. On Windows: Programs > Uninstall Programs AND delete the printer from the Devices & Printers page. On Mac: Delete from the Applications folder, empty Trash, AND delete the printer from Printers & Scanners page
  • Complete any pending computer updates.
  • Reboot the computer.
  • Install the latest version of the Dymo software for all user profiles. You will be prompted on the final step to plug in the computer.
  • Select "complete install" for the Dymo Web Service to be installed to print.
  • Reboot the computer.
  • Open the Dymo Label Software
  • Make sure the System Tray/Toolbar shows the Dymo logo, which ensures the Dymo Web Service has started.
  • Launch the check-in station
  • Check in someone who should print a label.

Important: Restarting the computer both times is important. Please do not skip those steps.
