You will need the Full Write Accounting permission to perform this action.
Tag a budget when you want to budget by department, ministry, or campus, not just by account. You choose the tag group once in the budget's settings. Then every account can use a default value, or you can tag accounts one by one.
Tag a budget
Go to Accounting > Budgets. Click Add New, or open the settings of an existing budget.
In Tag Group, choose the group to budget by. Leave it on No tag group to skip tagging.
A Default Tag field appears. Choose a value that every account uses by default, or leave it on No default (tag each account individually). You can override the tag for any account in the amounts grid.
Click Save.
Three ways to tag a budget
Default plus overrides - set a default tag and let most accounts use it. Accounts you override show their tag as a pill under the account name. Accounts on the default show nothing.
Tag each account - leave Default Tag on No default (tag each account individually) and tag every account yourself. Each account's tag shows under its name, and any account left untagged is flagged.
No tag - leave Tag Group on No tag group. The budget is not tagged and no tag picker appears.
Why tag a budget
The budget tag lets a tag-filtered Budget to Actual report compare like with like. If you filter the report by Youth, the budget column shows only Youth-tagged budget amounts and the actual column shows only Youth-tagged spending. Without a budget tag, Youth spending would be measured against the whole account's budget.
Budget tags only matter on a tag-filtered Budget to Actual report. With no tag filter, budget amounts are added up by account and the tag is ignored.
