How do I rename my Brother printer?

Describes how to rename a Brother label printer so you can tell multiple printers apart in the check-in app.

You will need the Check-In permission and the station PIN to re-detect the printer on a station after you rename it.

If your church uses more than one Brother printer of the same model, every one of them shows up with the same name in the check-in app, such as Brother QL-810W. Giving each printer its own name makes it easy to tell them apart when you set up a station and in the station's footer.

You rename the printer on the printer itself, from a web browser. The Check-In App then picks up the new name automatically.

Update the check-in app

The Check-In App shows your printer's custom name starting with version 2.3.0 on both iOS and Android. Older versions always show the model name, even after you rename the printer.

  1. On each phone or tablet you use as a station, open the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).

  2. Search for the One Church check-in app and tap Update if an update is available.

Find the printer's IP address

You will need the printer's IP address to reach its settings page. Either of these will give it to you:

  • On the station, go to Settings > Printer and tap Change printer. The scan list shows each printer it finds along with its address. You can back out without changing anything.

  • Print the printer's configuration label from the printer itself. The IP address is listed on it.

Tip: Giving each printer a reserved or fixed IP address on your network keeps its address from changing after a router restart, so you won't have to look it up again.

Rename the printer

  1. On a computer, phone or tablet connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the printer, open a web browser.

  2. In the address bar, type http:// followed by the printer's IP address and press Enter. This opens the printer's management page.

  3. Log in using the field at the top of the page. The password is printed on a sticker on the bottom of the printer.

  4. Go to Network > Wireless > Node Name.

  5. Replace the existing Node Name with the name you want, such as NurseryPrinter or LobbyPrinter. The name can't contain spaces.

  6. Save your change.

Repeat these steps for each printer you want to rename.

Show the new name on your stations

Once the printer is renamed, refresh it on each station that uses it. Do one of the following:

  • Close and reopen the check-in app.

  • On the station, go to Settings > Printer and tap Re-detect.

The new name should appear in the station's footer within about 15 seconds.

Tip: Still seeing the model name? Check that the station has version 2.3.0 or later of the check-in app, then tap Re-detect again.
