When a donor uses the giving portal in One Church Software, the system follows a step-by-step process to match the donation with an existing profile.
First, it checks the email address entered. If the email matches exactly with only one profile in the system, that profile is used. However, if no unique match is found—either because the email doesn’t exist in the system or it’s associated with multiple profiles—the portal will then request the donor’s name.
The system will attempt to match both the email and name combination to an existing profile. If no matching profile is found after both checks, a new profile will automatically be created to house the donation or recurring giving schedule. This ensures that every donation is linked to a record, even if it means creating a new one.
