How do I design a custom check-in label?

Design custom name, visitor, and security labels for check-in — with Universal printing support for Dymo, Zebra, and Brother printers.

You will need the Check-In permission to design and manage custom check-in labels.

Check-in labels help you keep kids safe and check-in lines moving, from name tags to security pickup tags. With the label designer, you can build your own custom labels instead of using the default layouts, choose exactly what information appears on them, and print the same design on a Dymo, Zebra, or Brother printer.

Opening the label designer

The label designer lives outside of individual events, so any labels you create here are available to use across your church's events.

  1. Go to Events > Check-In > Labels from the left-hand menu.

  2. Click + Add Label to start a new design.

Understanding label types

You can design three types of labels:

  • Name labels — print for each individual checked in. Choose which fields display, so you can leave off details like a parent's name and phone number if you'd rather keep that information off the tag.

  • Visitor labels — print for first-time guests checking in, so people such as greeters and group leaders can spot them easily.

  • Security labels — print for the adult picking up a child, matching the code on the child's name label.

Tip: Labels you design here are Universal — the same design works on Dymo, Zebra, and Brother printers. You no longer need to create a separate label for each printer brand.

Creating a custom label

The steps below walk through designing a label. The exact fields and layout options may vary slightly by label type.

Name labels

  1. From the label designer, select Name label as the type.

  2. Give your label a name so you can identify it later, such as "Kids Name Tag – No Parent Info."

  3. Choose which fields appear on the label. Click on + Add Element where you can click or drag an element into the designer. To remove Contact Name and Contact Phone if you'd rather not print that information on the child's tag, for example, click on the element and choose Delete from the sidebar.

  4. Arrange the fields, images, or barcodes the way you'd like them to appear.

  5. Click Save when you're finished.

Visitor labels

Visitor labels follow the same design steps as name labels. Select Visitor label as the type, then customize and save your design the same way.

Security labels

  1. Select Security label as the type.

  2. Name your label.

  3. Arrange the fields as desired. .

  4. Click Save.

Printing your labels at check-in

Designing a label doesn't automatically print it — you'll still need to assign it to the events where you want it to print. See How do I assign labels to print? for those steps.
